They aren't cheap, but the best "strap" I ever used is the Meinl Weston harness. Brasswind sells them for $75. Weight is supported a strap over each shoulder. The harness attaches to the tuba with a snap/hook into the ring on the bow. There is a pad that 100% protects the horn from scratches. Then there is a strap that comes from the shoulder area and snaps on to the upper ring. There are actually two straps, one on each shoulder, but you only use one. You can completely remove the hands from the tuba and it remains in position. Of course, if you want to go cheap, go to the local Home Depot and get a piece of rope.
