Since the valve stem is now out, go buy a new valve stem and screw it in, using the same felts that came off the old one.

Yamaha tubas and euphoniums are notorious for having the stems break off. (The normal repair is to drill a hole, preferably with a left handed drill!, then use an EZ-OUT to remove the stuck portion. The only other problem encountered on a regular basis is the valve guide (delrin ones) that shears off. "Don't try to tighten the finger button with the valve in the casing" and the valve guide should last a very long time.

Normal use of an instrument doesn't usually result in the valve stem breaking off. Some friendly advice, Don't repeat what caused it to break off!! You were lucky this time!
