All the comments are right on. In Texas, a starting teacher could make over $30K with incentives and stipends. After 5 years and a few bigger jobs later, you could make close to $37K. It all depends on the location of the school, the size, and what position you're in (HS, MS, head director, assistant).
All the positives are great. The only negative I would add is at some schools, you will work for an ex-football coach who's only claim to fame is a winning season and an administrative degree. Unfortunately, he's usually hired by a superintendent that use to be his head coach when he was assistant coach. Beware of the Jockocracy!! Kiss purchasing your new 186's goodbye.
