I joined an Army reserve band while in college. I got $$$ to go to school but had to take a semester off from school to go to basic training. After 2 years with that band I joined an Air national guard band in the same area. MUCH better musicianship and the unit was not very "military". Stayed in that band for 10 years because the commander allowed the troops to have a life and miss drills when necessary. Recently the band got a new 2nd Lt. commander fresh out of labotamy school and the unit became very "military". Had to make every drill, pressed uniforms, inspections.... So I recently got out. I had fun and would have done my 20 years if the previous commander had not retired.
