You MUST be talking about Western music in Japan as opposed to traditional Japanese music. I shudder to think about trying to soul-fish out a melody from Noh theatre. Fixed Do makes it even scarier. Just how would one go about representing 1/4 tones in solfege?
SD (who thinks Schoenberg got the idea for singspiel from Noh theatre...)
