Each of us is different and has different facial features, different dental features and our approach to playing varies as much as anything else. I always tell my students about mouthpieces: Are you happy with this mouthpiece? If so, leave well enough alone. If not, what's the problem? Then go from there. PERSONALLY, I played a C-4 for years. This is the best mouthpiece for German style tubas. Mirafone, Alexander, rotary Hirsbrunners. The Helleberg mouthpiece works best with the American style tubas, pistons in front, etc. If you don't like the rim of the mouthpiece, there are DOZENS of options to get a Helleberg type mouthpiece with a rounded rim, or a bowl shaped mouthpiece with a sharp rim.
