I think I use a similar cork handlebar tape wrapped around the tube of my Conn 24-25J (ie I have both bells) where the right hand rests.
1) It's more comfortable
2) My hand doesn't get green anymore
Item (2) was the main motivation - it's an old horn and the lacquer in that area is long gone
