- play 15 or 20 horns and see what you like for the cost. that's more important than the maker.

- bring a tuner and your own mouthpiece

- the horns will likely sort themselves into a short list of finalists vs. the rest

- a buddy or parent might be able to help you with picking one from the short list by being less emotional about what name is stenciled on the horn, giving you feedback on your tone, etc.

- there's a decent sandwhich shop next door for lunch


have a great time. i went around Christmas last year when i was visiting famiily in NY, and came away with a King 2341 which i'm still really happy with.
