I was fortunate enough to have a lesson at Mr. Bobo's house in L.A. during a Christmas vacation when I was in high school. He had all of his horns lined up around his living room. He saw me eyeing them and gave me a brief tour. The D tuba was a horn that had been a bad CC tuba (played consistently very sharp) and he had it converted to a D horn. He told me that the best playing horn he owned was his CC contrabass french horn, he just had very little excuse to play it. If you ever have an opportunity to study with the man, do it. Nearly 20 years later I still have very vivid memories of my experiences.
