Right. I think that really means something in a solo or small ensemble setting - but in a big Mahler symphony? When I saw the RPO do Mahler #5, I doubt that the guy used his B&H EEb because he felt it had more "color". There was probably some other rep. on the tour that worked better on a smaller tuba. To my ears, it just sounded undersized and at times, strained. Fletch would use the Eefer for a lot of stuff too, but large works got the 6/4 Holton treatment. Fletch told me that when he firt brought the Holton into the LSO, he got a flack from his colleagues. I guess it was the first time someone had brought a big BAT into a London orchestra. Anyway, there certainly was never any trouble hearing him, that's for sure.
