Bass Saxhorn is not a common term outside France, where the spelling would be something like this one:
Saxhorn basse en Si bemol (= Bass Saxhorn in B flat).
One could say, that the Bass Saxhorn and the euphonium come out of the same French roots. Only Blaikley's invention of the compensating system set off a development towards the slightly heavier euphonium in England.
