I play a lot of transcriptions on the F tuba and I've taken lessons with a Harpsichord teacher and Piano teacher at CIM. They've given me an extra insight on how it should be played, regardless of how hard it may be for the tuba. Taking lessons from Bishop helped me get over many of the technical aspects of trills and such, but it was really hearing what the other (non tuba players) teachers had to say about their perspectives that changed the music for me. Baroque music was my genre of choice, I feel without most or all of what the composer wrote or implied is a necessary attribute to the music and it's my suggestion for you to play all those trills.
Aside from this, I'd like to add that playing to impress a bassoonist should be more important than impressing another tubist. Although the main goal is to play the music so well you impress your ideas onto everyone. Convince the listener you know how to play music of that era and that composer.
