I am about to need a mute. The music played by the community band and small ensemble in which I play rarely calls for a mute. But there is an occasional "con sord" notation. Since I will not use a mute very often and I'm not rich, I don't want to spend a lot. Brooks Mays has a Humes and Berg 190 straight mute for $71, and there is a new Jet-Tone R&S Tuba and Euphonium mute listed on you-know-where for a buy-it-now price of $87. Any comments on either of these? Any recommendations? Anyone have a good used mute for sale inexpensively?
