I've done this in a jazz combo on numerous occaisions. My first time around I used an unmolested silent brass unit hooked through my bass amp with moderate success.. the sound was better than it is through the silent brass unit(ie no hiss, more realistic tone), but I couldn't think of any practical use for it. I've experimented with different kinds of effects pedals and mixers, and eventually ended up building my own "Silent Brass" system far superior to (and less ugly than) the unit made by Yamaha.
If you're looking to just hook your silent brass up to your stereo, buy the appropriate cable that will go from the Line-In on your stereo to the headphone jack on the SB electronic unit.
