Nope, no slide kicker, or any easy way to adjust the slides while playing. I think that it sounds more like an English baritone than a true valve trombone, or at least what I expect a valve trombone to sound like. That's one of the reasons that I sold it. I like the sound of my Distin valve trombone, pictured here, for those times when I am asked to play trombone. This has an 8.5" bell, but only a 0.490" bore. It still doesn't sound exactly like a slide trombone, but the tonal quality is close.
