anytime that you use the valves above second space C (or the D/Db above it for the second valve) you are SERIOUSLY compromising sound quality for convenience. The bass trombone starts sounding like a french horn. While it's good to know all the different valve/slide combinations, it's better to know the open horn well. Learn where A lies in second position, and adjust the main tuning slide if the tuning A doesn't agree with yours.
