I was at Chuck's house this summer and he currently plays a sort of special Yamaha creation that you can't buy, even with a real bell. He has quite a few carbon fiber bells that he can put on the tuba. They are inter-changable and it take only about 2 minutes. He has also been playing cimbasso a lot in the quintet - a meinl weston on loan from Scott Irvine from the opera orchestra in Toronto. He also has the old Canadian Brass model horn with the Carbon Fiber Bell - this is his favorite but he doesn't play it cause of the Yamaha contract.
Chuck sounds better then ever and so does Gene Watts who is 67 years old. Unbelievable!
