Indeed, the Johnson flight cases will hold up. They tend to be quite large if you have 4/4 size tuba or larger. Since 9/11 all the airlines are enforcing oversize rules with a vengence. Each airline has different weight & size limitations and different oversize fees.
Currently, the American Federation of Musicans (Musicians union) is working with the airlines to try to standardize these fees and standards. ITEA is also strating to be involved. hoping to get airlines to lower these limitations and esp. fees, with the idea that they are reducing the number of tubsits that fly, which in the current state of the airline industry is not in their best interest either.
