I have been using a PT48 on my HB21 for several years now. I tried a PT88 for a little while but I agree that in a solo setting it's too big.
The 48 has a pretty similar feel to the 88 (in my opinion) but has a quicker response and a more focused sound (again my opinion).
I use the 48 for a majority of my playing. I use the 88 for very large and very loud ensemble playing. I love the low register response on this mouthpiece however, I wouldn't say that the 48 is lacking.
