I agree. I simply can't join, the "slower is better" Bruckner fan club, tried as I have. I think that Celli's 8th works better than his 9th does. However, I'm convinced that the finale of the 8th works best at a more flowing tempo, as long as you don't rush the final peroration at the end. Boulez/VPO; Otmar Suitner/Staatskapelle Berlin; Welser-Most/Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (now my favorite one) - all of these have convinced me of this viewpoint.
