I had the valves vented on my York Master to solve two problems: 1.) I needed to pull and dump slides and reaching the valve with my left hand to avoid the pop was inconvenient, and 2.) I wanted to be able to adjust the first-valve slide position without worrying about the pressure.
As you play, you will pressurize your valve tubing from time to time, which some report can cause extraneous sounds during runs. Perhaps, but I'm not so sure. Certainly my own playing could not bear that out.
Therefore, I thinking valve venting is much more a convenience issue than it is a sound issue.
