The effect of the bell diameter is quite large, actually--something like two-thirds of the bell diameter. Therefore, the "nominal" lengths--12, 13, 16, and 18 feet--turn out to be pretty close.

My Miraphone 186 is 216 inches long, and the York Master is 210 inches long. To answer a suspicion I have about Dan's curiosity, the 221" tuba on ebay must be a BBb, heh, heh.
