Low notes, aside from being really good for your high chops, flexability, facility in allregisters! etc. are excellent for getting the blood back into your chops. Also they are fun to mess around with- and if well placed and in tune can inhance the sound of chords that emphasize the harmonic series in an ensemble. Of course the opposite will make your conductor look at you funny or worse:) but we tuba players never do anything that would be considered tasteless now do we? If a piece was well written and had some extreme pedals optional I believe that it would be both fun to play and neat to listen to
