Saturday I had the delight to be with two professional horn players reading chamber music. I had wheedled them into letting me also bring my F tuba in the hopes of showing them how well it works on some of the low horn parts.
We did a few of the Reicha trios...some of the third horn parts don't go very far above (concert) middle C, and are very playable on the F tuba, if, ah, athletic at times. I had not yet tried screaming 16th notes on the 182...but they work quite well.
BTW, fingerings on F tuba, reading horn music, are identical to F horn fingerings.
We had a great time, and they were suitably impressed with the F tuba's capabilities.
