I know people who feel the same about the Hindemith and the Vaughn Williams. We all have our likes and dislikes but that is no reason to want a piece to "go away". Personally, I like the TRG. I doubt if I will ever be able to play it like David Randolph did on his recording "Contrasts" but I like it. As for why it comes up in competetions? I don't know. I imagine it might be due to the diffuculty of the work. I have not done a "competetion" in years and thus have not seen it on any lists.
