I had one in high school and college. I liked the rim, which was narrower and larger in diameter than most other tuba mouthpieces. But the throat was so open that I found it impossible to get a clean tone on the old King that I was using at the time. I experimented with filling the throat area with paraffin and then carving it out to a more reasonable size, but I lacked the skill to do it neatly. In college I used it in the marching band with big Conn sousaphones. Because of its thin walls it warmed up more quickly than conventional mouthpieces on cold days, and out on the field nobody cared about sound quality.
I sold it last year; the new owner put it into a 20J and "rattled the windows" in his house. (He liked it.)
Last spring at NERTEC I saw Fred Young himself using one on a borrowed F tuba; it certainly worked for him, although I got the impression that he could have made music on a tin can.
