Speculation on such matters is ridiculous. None of us were sitting and listening to those auditions.

Obviously, for whatever reason, most of the strong applicants (as well as the weak) were dismissed by the BSO audition committee in their non-productive tuba audition ordeals.

You'll have to educate me on this: Once someone participated in BSO tuba audition ordeal #1 or BSO tuba audition ordeal #2, were they allowed to re-apply and re-audition in the next ordeal? When this type of thing has occurred with other orchestras in the past, it has been standard fare to state something like "Any who have previously auditioned need not re-apply."

Regardless, Mr. Baer is extremely diligent, perseverant, and focused to the point that I am truly in awe with great admiration. He obviously went through many years of auditioning/honing his skills/auditioning/honing his skills/auditioning/honing his skills to get to the point that he reached in his Fort Worth--D.C--New York run of success. Obviously, at this particular time in Mr. Baer's life ("now" is not the Boston audition. The Boston audition was "then".) he is in a position to effectively take on all interested comers.
