Unlacquered silver can stink, literally. Have owned two silver horns in a row now, and the tarnish is a big hassle: turns the horn almost black after a while, along with your hands and clothes.
Let it go too long and it stinks badly and can give off a bad taste as well.
I would pass on uncoated silver even if it does offer a slight sound improvement.
With a coated horn there will be a lot less polishing and more playing time instead...
