Actually, the bulk of our Pops and Youth stuff uses a pretty small string section. So, if I had a Willson (or maybe the big Yamaha) I would be able to relax more on those series due to the smaller "footprint" of the timbre. In those cases, IF I had one of the larger bass tubas I might do more orchestral work on it, and IF the MD and the trombones did not care. (My horn choice has only been noticed and commented upon twice in my ten years here, so that is not really a factor.)

It would just depend on each musical situation, which is how I do things now. Having a different set of tubas would change the conditions, so my solutions would be altered as well.
