You might try one of the slightly larger PT mouthpieces like the 66 or 72. Call Custom and talk to one of the Tuba guys for advice.

Another piece of advice: don't be a total slave to the tuner. Spend a lot time playing playing duets and etudes in unison and octaves with someone who's intonation you trust. It doesn't have to be a tuba player either!

This is a horn that you are not going to learn overnight. If you are willing to stick with it, then you will get good results. I think the reason we see so many 45slp's for sale is than many people are not willing to work out the kinks.
