and possibly a good bit before, Gene was spending some of his time with one of the Yamaha prototype 6/4 "York" copies. The bell and "bugle" on this instrument has been replaced once by Yamaha and Gene describes that instrument as "very dark".
Yes, he still has his Perantucci B&S F tuba. He occassionally expresses some dissatisfaction with it, but (obviously) plays it extremely well. I would expect that he'll go "shopping" sometime.
