I was going to question your measurment. My literature indicates that 1.048" is the standard diameter of a Conn piston. If the ports align properly, you can always have the piston built up honed to size. It sounds to me like maybe this has already been done. It's really hard to tell much without seeing the horn. I have some old Conn pistons but then again without know exactly what you have it's very difficult to be of much help. The wrong piston certainly could cause some intonation problems. On the other hand, some of the old Conns weren't famous for their intonation when they were new.
