If he knows BYU is his choice, and his grades and test scores indicate he'd likely be a viable candidate, then you should concentrate on BYU, contact the music department and the tuba teacher there, as someone else suggested.

If you want him to consider other options, you should begin exploring other colleges with strong music programs. One place to look is at website for the performing arts college fairs. Print lists of the schools (there are regional fairs, and not all schools attend all fairs) and then start looking at the web sites for those schools. Sophomore year is the time to do this so by the beginning of junior year, you will have a tentative list to research more seriously.

Most important is musical preparation. Now is the time for your son to spend multiple hours a day in the practice room, take as many lessons as he reasonably can, participate in as many ensembles as possible -- band, jazz band, orchestra (especiall local or regional youth symphonies) -- both for the experience and the contacts.
