There are lots of things that can cause stuffy lower notes. Start with stuff inside the horn. Is the valve section clean? Valve alignment and leaks can have a tremendous affect. If there are not problems with anything mechanical, then it might just be that particular horn or the player. I have several horns and they all have different characteristics. My King 1235 Eb has an incredible bottom end. My Mirafone 183 (Eb) as a terrible bottom end. I can improve the bottom end on the Mirafone with lots of practice. The fact is that two identical brands and models can have different characteristics. On some horns the bottom notes just 'pop out'. If that's what you want, buy THAT horn.
