I hear you, man. I am glad that it was all-volunteer when I served. Day-to-day attitudes were bad enough without adding conscripts into the formula. My Dad had a friend at the draft board that let him know in advance that his number was coming up. Since there had been hints that we might mobilize en masse to Viet Nam, and he felt that Army training was pretty lame at the time, he swung to the other extreme and enlisted in the Corps. He figured that with Marine training behind him, he might live. He did.

While he was in training, I was born at Camp Pendleton. Hmph . . . he gave me a lot of crap when I told him that I had enlisted in the Army back in 1984.
