is an important pitch in the range of the tuba. Low F is a lot more important in the range of the tuba than low E is in the range of the trumpet...and I don't think many somewhat-serious trumpet players would shop for a trumpet without a moveable 3rd slide letting their "ears find the pitch".

Yeah, at mf and below a 1-2-4 F can be pinched up to pitch, but few players are strong enough to pull 1-2-4 up to pitch with a good sound (even though very loud playing tends to ride up in pitch, helping to somewhat overcome this particular problem) when playing ff/fff.

I mean no offense at all, only disagreement on this.
