While your on the subject of Saint-Saens 3rd, take a listen to a recording the Chicago Symphony made in the mid-70's. Daniel Bahrenbaum (sp) was conducting for that recording in a large church. I think in Maryland? Anyway, it's truly powerful. I know this recording is not in distribution in the USA anymore, but there might be a few second-hand one's out there. (Deutche Grammaphon) I found mine in Montreal. I also have a recording of San Francisco's that they made in the 80's and it is wonderful as well. San Francisco's recordings are among my favorites, especially there Carl Neilson symphonys.

Happy listening!
