I'm not sure how this notion has persisted, many of the posts to this BBS are from folks(like me) who are decidedly amateur. I follow the discussions here because of the subject matter and because, even though I'm not a pro, I want to get better. I admire anyone who has the moxie to become a professional musician, whether as a performer or not, and hope that those of you who are professionals remember that what makes some of what you do possible is that those of us who aren't pro's buy tickets to see your shows.
