The Sony Walkman Professional WM-D6C (cassette) is a great machine. It's far less expensive to purchase and operate than a portable DAT machine (it costs $380 new) and it's perfect for recording practice sessions and live performances. An added feature is that the cassettes can be played in the car and you can send tapes to your friends. Few people have DAT machines (particularly in the car). This was the machine of choice for DeadHeads until the DAT machines came along.
