Seems rudimentary to me, how about buzzing the mouthpiece along over the whole range you want to play. Clearly what the student is mostly doing is letting the horn determine the pitch and not controlling his chops. Buzzing a couple octaves of pitches with the mouthpiece alone should teach him to work his chops to get the higher pitches. Maybe working with the mouthpiece visualizer ring would be even more instructive.
