They're probably small scratches--perhaps put in by the shop who sold it to you in an effort to "spruce it up a bit". I'd probably leave it be; but if you're really bugged by it, try buffing with a jeweler's polishing cloth. This is a two-piece affair with one rouge-impregnated piece and one clean piece. Follow the directions that come with the cloth.
A shop would normally buff these out on a powered buffing machine with wheels charged with jeweler's rouge--a back-breaking, filthy bit of work. I just finished buffing a brass tuba and my wife tells me I look like a raccoon...
