I recommend first off to not let your tank get too low. That's hard enough while playing seated. Strive to be as full as you can of air always. That's the fuel for sound.

Secondly, Especially if it's a hard passage technically or marching, leave some notes out. Work it out with your neighbor whose playing what. There is no law that states you must play everything while marching. This tends to lead to a low quality sound. Take a WHOLE beat to breathe!!!

Third, watch the articulations. The more/harder the articulation(s) the more air is wasted/ not used as efficently as can be.

Marching with a tuba is a strenuous aerobic event.
