I'm going to jump right in and say that it doesn't make a bit of difference to me what somebody plays on.

A lot of people will say, "You need a so-and-so CC tuba and/or an F tuba," but, I believe, what they'll actually mean is, "You need a high quality tuba." Most CC tubas are darn good horns, so the odds say it makes sense to recommend looking at CCs -- but that doesn't mean that all BBb tubas are dogs. Look around, play everything you can, and you might surprise yourself.

Also, TAKE YOUR TIME when deciding what to buy. For me, that meant playing on available school horns and later finding a decent used tuba while I grew as a player and figured out what kind of sound I wanted to make and what kind of tool I liked to make that sound with. Just as importantly, I wanted to find out whether or not I should go into music as a career before skipping out on buying a new car just to afford that new tuba.

Most of my favorite tubas are CC, but I bought a BBb instead. Go figure.

My opinion, if it matters...
