You didn't mention whether your playing a CC, Eb, or F tuba. If playing a CC, then there is no shame in leaving out the high Ab. The Concerto was originally intended for Bass Tuba (F tuba) not contrabass. If you can play up to high F and G, then you're playing about where most people would expect you to be able to play on a CC.
