I don't think it would hurt it if you did it occasionally. I wouldn't do it too frequently though the harsh detergents could damage the silver plate. I think it is a bit of overkill though. I have run my school mouthpieces through the school's dishwasher, but they do not use soap, just incredibly hot water. I wanted to kill whatever germs were on them after using them in class. They were so hot when they came out of the dishwaher I could not touch them with bare hands!
