There are only two recordings of Arnold Jacobs doing the RVW concerto: the commercial one on DGG with Barenboim and the CSO, and one issued on a special 2-CD set of CSO soloists of a live performance with the CSO under Henry Mazer. This is by far the better performance. Neither are currently available. On the CD "Portrait of an Artist" is a home recording of him playing the first movement unaccompanied on a huge Holton CC copy of his York. For those who don't think you can play the RVW concerto on a big horn, check this out. That recording came from an original tape he made. The transfers of all material on that CD were made from the best possible sources and the best technology. The point of the recordings is a great artist in his prime, and even without modern digital recording techniques that fact is abundantly evident.
