The DG recording of the VW with Barenboim conducting has never been transfered to CD. Personally, I hope it never does because I don't think it shows Mr. Jacobs in a particularly positive light - but that's just one person's opinion. To me, part of the problem was simply how it was recorded. It sounded almost as though DG dumped a mike right down the bell or something - way too close. I would agree with some others who say that both the John Fletcher/Previn recording (RCA), and the Michael Linds ones are really top drawer. There's also a good one on Chandos (also with the LSO, by the way) that's coupled to the VW 6th symphony, but I can't remember the tuba player's name at the moment (and am not proud of that fact).
