When I first played my new Jupiter 582, I noticed the same thing you experienced; i.e., the tone had a bit too much bite. The horn came with a generic 24AW mouthpiece. When I substituted my PT 50 mouthpiece, the tone was "tamed" and became full and dark. Easy solution.
