First, I want to commend the posters for their humor. I've never had my Korg AT-12 handy when bathing, but you can bet I'm going to start looking for a Gore-tex bag for it...might wanna check the Brasswind...good slogan there: "Measure your ass-wind at the Brasswind". With appropriate apologies to Mike and Dennis at South Bend...

ANYWAY...I've found the best quality, legitimate "lowest" note on ANY of the modern tubas is the "G" one step below the lowest key on a piano. The "FFF" can be played, but it is usally very weak and not well-centered. I've owned about 25 different horns, including BBb, CC, Eb, and F, and I could get a good pedal G on all of them with the right mouthpiece. The pitch of the horn and the bore size have negligible effect. In fact, I'm consistently able to hit a good BBb on a euphonium, which of course is pitched only a fourth above the F tuba. The idea of estimating range extremes by comparing relative pitch is good in theory, but in practice it doesn't pan out.

Now, if you'll excuse me...the bath water seems just right...
