Here's another one. Ernst Krenek Sym. no. 2. From the 1920s. Krenek was Czech and made the Nazi's s###list, so he came here. Died about ten years ago at some 90 years of age. The piece is about tough love. You gotta be tough to love it, let alone play it. Imagine Schoenberg getting together with Weill, and they're both on drugs. I heard it played at Juilliard a while back. 1st tuba was Joe Szurly, the very guy who has gotten Universal to start reissuing Philip Jones recordings. The Krenek must have been a formative experience.
